Toughness, Hardness, Brittleness

Toughness:
It is defined as the ability of material to absorb energy upto fracture during the plastic deformation. It depends upon the strength and ductility.

Hardness:
It is the property of a material which resists Indentation (or) deformation. Hardness is a desired property for cutting tool, ball bearing and other components which resists wear.

Brittleness:
It is the property of a material which exhibits sudden fracture without any visible deformation. It is the opposite property to Toughness.
