Automobile, Frame, Chasis & Body (Automobile Engineering)

Automobile:
A self propelled vehicle, which is used to carry loads is called automobile.

Frame:
A structure on which all the body parts & accessories are mounted is called frame.
Generally frames are made of Cast Iron.

Frames are of 2 types:
  1. Conventional Frame
  2. Integral Frame (Frame less)
 1. Conventional Frame:
It has only Basic frame structure

It has 2 long side members and 5 to 6 cross members joined together with the help of rivets and bolts.
The frame sections are used generally.
A. Channel Section – Good resistance to bending
B. Tabular Section – Good resistance to Torsion
C. Box Section – Good resistance to both bending and Torsion

2.Integral Frame (Frame less)

In this type there is no frame (frame is not used)  and all the elements are attached to this body.
As we don’t use frame, it is cheaper.
Only Disadvantage is repairing is difficult.

Chassis:
It is defined as the Internal Framework, which consists of frame and all the elements which are responsible for Propelling & controlling the Vehicle.
ie., Chassis means whole vehicle except body.
Chassis consists of engine, brakes, steering system & wheel mounted on the frame, differential, suspension.

Chasis: (Hint: TPCS lo BA course 😋 )

Body:

It is the Super Structure of the Vehicle.
Both Chassis & Body make a complete Vehicle.
Generally Body is made from metal or fiber.
Main Purpose of a automobile body is to provide Good Look, Comfort and Protection( from sunlight, dust, air etc.,)
